Availability:
Available at native plant nurseries in northeast Florida.
Description: Evergreen shrub up to 25 feet tall but usually much shorter. Small, narrow leaves and 1/4 inch orange-red berries.
Dimensions: Typically 20 feet in height, taller than broad.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Range:
Southeastern United States from Virginia to Louisiana, south to Alachua, Flagler, and Orange counties.

Habitats: Acid swamps and coastal swales.
Soils: Wet to moist, moderately well-drained to poorly drained organic or sandy soils, often with acid pH.
Nutritional Requirements: Moderate; can grow in nutrient poor soils, but needs some organic content to thrive.
Salt Water Tolerance: Low; does not tolerate flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance: Moderate; grows near salt water, but is protected from direct salt spray by other vegetation.
Drought Tolerance: Moderate; generally requires moist soils, but tolerant of short periods of drought once established.
Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade.
Flower Color: White.
Flower Characteristics: Semi-showy.
Flowering Season: Spring to summer
Fruit: Orange-red berries.
Wildlife and Ecology: Attracts pollinators. Provides food for wildlife.
