Origen/Origin: No nativo, naturalizado/Not native, naturalized.

Historia y distribución/History and distribution: Cited by Britton & Wilson (1925 [VI(1): 124]) as occasional along roadsides and much planted for ornament, and subsequently by Liogier & Martorell (1982), Liogier (1994 [IV: 315]) and Liogier & Martorell (2000) as planted for ornament and occasionally naturalized, especially in the southern districts, but excluded as only under cultivation by Axelrod (2011). However, this is cited as naturalized in Puerto Rico in the Flora of the West Indies (Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong 2015).
