Native Range: The West Indies (Bahamas, Cuba, Cayman Islands), the southeastern United States, Mexico and Central America (Belize).

History in the Bahamas: Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for borders of saline flats and salt marshes nearly throughout the Archipelago (Frozen Cay, Andros, New Providence, Eleuthera, Cat Island, San Salvador, Long Island, Long Cay, Mayaguana, Green Cay, Great Inagua). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 1153-1155, with illustrations) for in or on the borders of salt marshes and saline flats, and in dune meadows, nearly throughout the Archipelago (regions 10-1).
