Native Range: The West Indies, South Florida, Mexico, Central America and northern South America.

History in the Bahamas: Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for trees in coppices in the northwestern Commonwealth (Grand Bahama, Andros, New Providence). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 32-33, with illustrations) for trees in coppices in the northwestern Commonwealth (regions 10-8).

Comments: Nevrodium is the original spelling of the genus, but this is often corrected to Neurodium.

Synonyms: Paltonium lanceolatum; Nevrodium lanceolatum [orth. var.].
