Native Range: The West Indies (Bahamas, Greater Antilles), South Florida, southern Mexico, Central America and northern South America. Absent from Puerto Rico through the Lesser Antilles.

History in the Bahamas: Not listed by Britton & Millspaugh (1920). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 274-275, with illustrations) as epiphytic on trees in swamp forests or moist coppices in the northwestern Commonwealth (regions 9-8).
