Native Range: The West Indies, Mexico, Central America and South America; naturalized in Bermuda, the southern United States and the Old World.

History in the Bahamas: Reported in 1920 by Britton & Millspaugh for disturbed areas and coppices nearly throughout the Archipelago (Grand Bahama, Abaco, Andros, New Providence and Eleuthera south to Great Inagua and Grand Turk). Reported by Correll & Correll (1982: 1148-1150, with illustrations) for disturbed areas, especially where moist, nearly throughout the Archipelago (regions 10-1).
