Florida Keys History and Distribution: Reported in 1884 by J. Cosmo Melvill for the island of Key West. Not reported for the Florida Keys by John Kunkel Small in 1913, but reported for hammocks in southern peninsular Florida and the Florida Keys by Small in 1933. Also reported for Big Pine Key (Dickson et al. 1953; Franklin 1968), but cited with a "?" and "not known to G.N. Avery from Florida" in Austin et al. (1980). However, there is a specimen collected in 1969 from Key West by William T. Gillis (
8328 FTG), so it was historically present in the lower Keys. A specimen at FLAS needs to be examined.
