South Florida History and Distribution:
Recorded as Presumed Extirpated in Rare Plants of South Florida (Gann et al. 2002
, pp 96-97), based on collections at a single site in Miami-Dade County from 1903-1953, and the translocation of remaining plants to Everglades National Park in 1960. Rediscovered March 6, 2016 on Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park by Chris Evans with Jake Heaton and Drew Mullins, presumably from plants translocated from Hattie Bauer Hammock in 1960 (see also Luer 1972, Gann 2015
:78-79). This population was verified by Jimi Sadle, Park Botanist, on March 7, 2016. We treat this as a benign introduction in Everglades National Park.
