Ranked as possibly extirpated in Rare Plants of South Florida (Gann et al. 2002
; pp 162-163) based on the several observations between 1977 and 1985 at Fuchs Hammock Preserve in Miami-Dade County. No new plants have been seen there, but it was reported for the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park by Paul Martin Brown in 2005. Mike Owen (2022, email comm.) reports that it is still extant there.
