South Florida History and Distribution: Ranked as critically imperiled in Rare Plants of South Florida (
Gann et al. 2002; pp 222-224) based on three occurrences in two protected areas (Biscayne National Park; Vizcaya Museum and Gardens), and one non-protected area (Plantation Key residential development). Two additional locations have been documented in the upper Florida Keys. Plants at Vizcaya and elsewhere on the mainland have been determined to be the nonnative
C. crista from Asia.
