Description:
Medium herbaceous clumping grass.
Height:
Typically 1-2 feet in height; may exceed 3 feet when in flower. As broad as tall except when flowering.
Growth Rate:

Range:
Southern United States south to the Monroe County Keys; West Indies, Mexico, Central America, and South America.
Habitats:
A wide variety of sunny, moist, upland habitats and disturbed sites.
Soils:
Moist to occasionally wet, well-drained to moderately well-drained, sandy, limestone, or organic soils, without humusy top layer.
Nutritional Requirements:
Low; it grows in nutrient poor soils.
Salt Water Tolerance:
Low; does not tolerate long-term flooding by salt or brackish water.
Salt Wind Tolerance:
High; can tolerate moderate amounts of salt wind without significant injury.
Drought Tolerance:
High; does not require any supplemental water once established.

Full sun.
